"After the Hermitage " is an exhibition of the drawings and etchings by Paula Modersohn-Becker, one of the brightest representatives of the German art of the late XIX - XX centuries.
Paula Modersohn-Becker is one of the major artists at the turn of the twentieth century. She can be considered a forerunner of the early expressionism, a symbolic figure of the movement for gender equality in life and in art. Her drawings and etchings of 1895-1905, shown at the exhibition, perform a certain simplification of forms - a technique which she made her artistic credo. Her engravings have a special emotion and a touch of monumentality as well as her scenic paintings. Paula Modersohn-Becker created just thirteen of them, and no her lifetime prints survived. The Berlin-based famous printmaker Otto Felzing printed them a few years after her death.
